3 drinks to keep you warm and healthy this winter

We all want to keep healthy this winter, and with a stream of coughs, colds and flus on the rise it can be hard to avoid getting sick in colder months. We share 3 simple drink recipes used to minimise symptoms of cold and flu as well as keep them at bay.

 

Warm ginger tea

Simple to create with only two ingredients, ginger promotes good digestion, and has anti-tussive properties which means it can relieve coughing.

Ingredients:
3 ounces thinly-sliced ginger root
1 cup water

Directions:
Mix together in a mug.

 

Creamy spiced turmeric tea

Turmeric has a plethora of benefits but its standout feature is the concentration of the compound curcumin, excellent for treating inflammation and joint pain.

 

Ingredients:
2 cups unsweetened almond milk
1/2 cup light coconut milk (from the can)
2 tablespoons raw honey
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 black peppercorn
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch cayenne
Pinch nutmeg
(Optional: 1 tablespoon chia seeds)

Directions:
Add all ingredients to a blender.  and process until well-combined. Heat liquid mixture on stovetop on low-medium heat until it has come to desired temperature. Serve immediately.

 

Apple Cider Vinegar Cinnamon Tea

This tart and highly detoxifying drink can be enjoyed warm or over ice. Apple Cider helps with detoxification, digestive issues, sore throat, weight loss and bad breath. Cinnamon lowers cholesterol, keeps your arteries healthy, manages blood sugar and works as a cancer-fighter.

Ingredients:
1/2 Lemon
1 cups of Hot Water
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 Tablespoon maple syrup
2 Tablespoons of unfiltered apple cider vinegar
Pinch of cayenne pepper (Optional)

Directions:
Cut lemon in half, squeeze into a mug. Add cinnamon, apple cider vinegar and maple syrup. Sprinkle optional Cayenne Pepper.
